prokarsterra sofia 2015Teachers and students from Secondary School 137 "Angel Kanchev"-Sofia took part in the Third International Competition "Karst under protection - gift for the generations", held under the auspices of UNESCO.

The team of teachers Victoria Karanlakova, Monika Mihaylova, Reneta Valkova, Nora Topalova and Plamen Mitev provided the preparation, implementation and finalization of the project. It was performed in two successive stages: school research expedition and development of products.

The competition involved 14 teams from 8 countries: Bulgaria, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Japan, Montenegro, Russia, Germany and Poland.

Our educational project "ProKARSTerra"-explorers, which was a research expedition school for complex study of karst objects in Bulgaria, performed through interdisciplinary integral participation, was awarded Second Prize.

Nine-member jury of karstology, artists and educators from Japan, Czech Republic, Poland and Bulgaria awarded the 49 prizes, whereas Secondary School 137 "Angel Kanchev"-Sofia received 6 of them.

First Prize in the category "Drawing of students over 12 years" was awarded to Simon Hokinova, Nicole Pavlova, Manol Petkov and Christian Mutlyashky for their drawing "Magic Water" under the leadership of arts teacher Dr. Monika Mihailova.

Third Prize in the same category received Catherine Metodieva for the drawing "Krushuna Waterfalls" - under the leadership of arts teacher Dr. Monika Mihailova.
Third Prize for the leaflet "Caves Devetashko Plateau" received the team of the section "Young researcher in Karstology", presented by students from 10 b class led by Senior Geography teacher Victoria Karanlakova.

Third Prize drawing for students under 12 years was awarded to Rahim Haldy for his drawing "Waterfall" - under the leadership of Senior English teacher Reneta Valkova.

Incentive awards were given to:
Catherine Metodieva in the category "Brochures" for "Devil's Throat and Orlova Chuka" - led by Senior Geography teacher Victoria Karanlakova.

Konstantin Georgiev’s paper entitled "Karst, karst processes and forms and their distribution in Bulgaria" - led by Senior Geography teacher Victoria Karanlakova.

The works of the winners will be published on the international project site and will be exposed to scientific and practical forum in Sofia in September 23, 2015. A catalog of award-winning works will be issued and they will be included in a travelling exhibition.

Diplomas and prizes will also be awarded.
